On Monday evening, Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition factions renewed bombing Syrian government forces’ sites in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo, northwest Syria, while the latter responded by bombing the former’s locations.

"The armed factions shelled the government forces’ positions near Miznaz, the Regiment 46, and Besatroun, west of Aleppo," North Press reported military sources in the opposition.

"The government forces’ sites near of al-Malaja and al-Dar al-Kabira in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, were shelled by the factions with mortar shells," the sources added.

The government forces responded by shelling the factions’ positions in the villages of Tedil, Kafr Nouran, Tuqad and Kafruma, west of Aleppo, with artillery and missiles, according to the same sources.

"The factions’ points in the villages and towns of Sfuhen, al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid and the outskirts of Kansafra and al-Bara in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, were bombed by the government forces stationed at the surrounding checkpoints," the sources said.

The mutual bombardment between the two sides coincided with intense flight of Russian drones over Idlib and Aleppo regions, according to sources specialized in tracking military flights.

For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Ottoman Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
