Syria's de-escalation zone witnesses government-opposition mutual shelling
2021-11-17
[NPASYRIA] On Tuesday, the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria witnessed mutual shelling between Ottoman Turkish-backed Syrian armed opposition factions and Syrian government forces in different areas.

"The government forces continued bombing the opposition factions’ sites in the villages and towns of al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, outskirts of al-Bara, Ehsem, al-Ruwaiha, Deir Sunbul and Benin in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib," North press reported a military source in the opposition.

"Sites of the opposition factions in the villages and towns of Kafr Amma, Kafr Ta’al, Tedil and Kafr Nouran, west of Aleppo, were also bombed by the government, while no casualties were reported," the source added.

"The factions responded to the government forces’ bombardment by shelling their positions near Miznaz, the Regiment 46, Kafr Halab, Khirbet Jadraya and Urum al-Kubra and Urum al-Sughra, west of Aleppo, with heavy artillery and rockets," according to the same source.

For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Ottoman Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
