More than 100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in one year
2021-11-18
[CBS] An estimated 100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in one year, a never-before-seen milestone that health officials say is tied to the COVID-19 pandemic and a more dangerous drug supply. Overdose deaths have been rising for more than two decades, accelerated in the past two years and, according to new data posted Wednesday, jumped nearly 30% in the latest year.

Experts believe the top drivers are the growing prevalence of deadly fentanyl in the illicit drug supply and the COVID-19 pandemic, which left many drug users socially isolated and unable to get treatment or other support.

The number is "devastating," said Katherine Keyes, a Columbia University expert on drug abuse issues. "It's a magnitude of overdose death that we haven't seen in this country."

#14  Yesterday NPR did post this quote from Anne Milgram: "This year alone, DEA has seized enough fentanyl to provide every member of the United States population with a lethal dose."

#13  While the US Postal Service continues to handle mail containing fentanyl direct from Red China to distributors in the USA, strangely the MSM and leading pundits never talk about this, and Buy Dung? never mentioned it to Xi during their recent encounter.

#11  ^ this. They are destroying an entire generation. These kids have lost YEARS of socio-emotional and intellectual development.

Many of them will never recover from this.

Most will experience diminished earning potential and reduced chances for a stable and prosperous life.

It is simply criminal what has been done to these young people -- in the name of avoiding a risk that is literally smaller than their risk of a fatal car crash while driving on the highway in any given year.

#10  That's not unexpected when you consider that so many *young* adults were told to forget their dreams and professions and instead go home and sit on the couch for over a year while living on mailbox money. Its *criminal* what we did to young adults in the name of the Chinese flue. There should be consequences for the "leaders" that perpetuated this nonsense.

#8  If I could somehow solve just one of the problems facing our country, it would be the drug problem. Because it is a driver of so many other problems -- crime, homelessness, etc.

#7  We know the cartels have corrupted the Mexican government. Biden's open border policy is an indication that they have also corrupted him.

And then there is the Chinese connection. Remember what a great movie The French Connection was? How about getting Popeye Doyle after the Chinese? Yeah, I know. The FBI, CIA and DEA would never let it happen.

#6  Unfortunate so many choose to destroy themselves but in the end they made the choice. Just a longer, more destructive suicide.

#5  Far more died in the U.S. from overdoses than from Climate Change. Chinese fentanyl probably got a lot of them. Much of this stuff came across our southern border thanks to China Joe's border policies.

#4  Some Conservative Inc.â„¢ "commentators" (David French and Kevin Williamson come to mind, both Notional Review alumni) have opined that blue-collar white men dying of drug overdoses is a good thing. This is the "brain trust" some (hopefully not many, but none would be better) self-identified "conservatives" get their opinions from.

OPEN BORDERS = MORE DRUGS
Let us not forget the Biden/Socialcrat's Open Border policy plays a major key role in allowing TONS of more Illegal drugs into the USA? That were previously stopped when the US border and immigrant were properly controlled.

#2  Tell me this is all a bad dream.
I can't believe this is happening to our beloved country

#1  In related news, Texas law enforcement seized over $2million in fentanyl and cocaine in a single day at the border.

As the Border Patrol focuses on caring and feeding thousands of migrants daily, the cartels are taking advantage of enforcement gaps. A redirection of CBP personnel from ports of entry to assist the Border Patrol has likely benefited the cartels as well. With reduced inspection capabilities at ports, cartels face reduced chances of losing shipments.
