Winter Storm Is Set To Dump Eight Feet Of Snow On Northern California And Will Also Bring Rain And Winds To Rest Of Golden State As Forecasters Warn Of Power Cuts
2021-12-13
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • A major winter storm will drop up to 8 feet of snow on Northern California's highest peaks and bring rain and winds up to 65 mph to the rest of the state

  • 'This is a pretty widespread event,' said NWS meteorologist Anna Wanless in Sacramento. 'Most of California, if not all, will see some sort of rain and snow'

  • The precipitation will bring at least temporary relief to the broader region that's been gripped by drought for more than 20 years because of climate change

  • Another storm system predicted to hit California midweek could deliver almost continuous snow

  • Pacific Gas & Electric said the storm may cause power outages in the Bay Area

#9  A good view of this is via a product of the AZ Univ which shows the changing 500mb (about 18k feet) and the infrared water vapor on the same loop.

#8  interesting from a Meteorological point

the storm originated in the Gulf of Alaska where the surface ocean temperature is a few degrees below normal and as the storm moves down the coast it will tap moisture from the Gulf of California and vicinity which is a bit above normal

probably this gives a moisture stream with a return occurrence of 5 to 10 years

NOTE: This is the Northern CAL Cascade Mts.
Yes !!! Pacific stream moisture and the usual "winter" winds cause snow. In 3-4 months it will be followed by the usual Spring thaw, flooding, mud and landslides, summer heat waves, wild fires and arson fires set by environmentalists trying desperately to prove a "Climate" point.

This happens every year, its pretty much a normal, but broad weather cycle.

eg. California has experienced many droughts over the lat 150++ years/ Such as 1841, 1864, 1924, 1928-1935, 1947-1950, 1959-1960, 1976-1977, 1986-1992, 2006-2010, 2011-2017, 2018 and 2020-2021.

BTW: The Donner Summit California same general northern area (1900-2020) usual sees 343" (28ft.) to low 400" (33ft.).

While just 50 miles west Yuba CA. can barely muster 2" of snow.
Mt. Hood is expecting 22"

#3  It will be a "record breaking" amount of snow. In the spring, California's water situation will be blamed on the "non-existent snow-pack."

#2  Winter Storm Is Set To Dump Eight Feet Of Snow

In the summer environmental activists call it global warming. During the winter they switch the lingo to climate change...

#1  Since the precipitation will help ameliorate the drought, surely Californians will be pleased to give up heat and power for a while. After all, what is being a Californian but sacrificing their comfort for the greater good of the environment.
