The US is revising its approach to the MiddleEast, having concluded that transforming the region through nation-building or regime change is no longer viable

#17  Off the pile from this AM...

Cries Herbie, "Moar greenery, please,
But for poor baby Jesus a freeze,
So Muslims can rush
Into fruitful discussions.
A free Middle East!
Peaceful Arabs will feast
All day long on... authentic Chinese!"

Christmas Wishes (Dishes and Dishes!)?

#16  Anyone who gets a tummy ache the moment Israel is mentioned has a problem.

#15  Israel is uniquely positioned in the world today.

Hoot if ah'm wrong.
From the memory hole: Creation of Israel, 1948

A conflict at the end of the British colonial period and the engagement of the US with the successor of the League of Nations led to the need for a demonstration of the power of a ruling world congress.

#14  Muzzworld self-screws 24/7. We need Israel to keep a lid on it.

#13  If we didn't screw with everybody in the ME, we wouldn't need to pay through the nose for Israel's help screwing with everybody in the ME.

#12  I expect if there were no coordination/intel sharing/arms supplying/etc. (as noted in #9, 10, 11) with Israel, "Cluet Splat" would find some other reason to denounce the Juice :-)

#11  Israel spends an awful lot of what we “give” them to buy American equipment that’s reached the beta testing stage of development, then do the debugging for us for free. Remember the unflyable F-35s that they took a year or so to make flyable?

Or they take the basic thing and develop specialized packages that the DoD happily buys rather than spend American time developing.

#10  ^ Also extra valuable for their intel. Without it we'd be flying blind, 100% blind, in the ME

#9  Israel is uniquely positioned in the world today. They are probably our best military coordination channel to Russia. And the only state in the ME not mind-poisoned by muzzizm. There are other good reasons to back them, but the two I mentioned are all you really need...

#8  Nations aren't "built" anymore than rivers or mountains are. They evolve naturally, out of families, tribes, clans, a faith, shared memories of struggle and triumph against common enemies.

It was insane to even imagine that an American Proconsul in a suit & boots could create a modern democracy out of a tribal shithole just by dispensing billions of greenbacks from the Green Zone. We couldn't even keep the lights on or pick up the garbage -- let alone take out the Sadrist and other garbage.

Let's hope 2022 marks the end of the Globo-Hubris Era

#7  Why is Israel support important? We should spend the money on ourselves instead. Israel already gets the most aid from the US for some baffling reason(minus Afghanistan) but it's actually much worse than this. After we consider the intelligence, weapons sharing etc. The value of US foreign aid to Israel is definitely far greater than any other country. Also when Israel gets military secrets, assets, or tech from the US they often then just turn around and sell them to China

. Some thanks we get!

#5  And it only took the US State Dept 20 YEARS

No learning from Vietnam, Korea, Kosovo, Nicaragua?

How odd.

#4  And it only took the US State Dept 20 YEARS to figure out it is NOT Government. It is Butchery and Terrorism that will win and control the minds of those seeking some form of basic stability.

#3  If you put a drop of wine in a barrel of sewage, you get sewage.
If you put a drop of sewage in a barrel of wine, you get... Sewage.

(And no, this is no way a rap on Israel or her citizens. It is a rap on US policy in the ME since the end of WW II at least.)

#2  Never was "viable." How about a not too clever ruse to cover the administration's pull-back of Israeli support.
