Jordanian authorities found bodies of two smugglers with drugs

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces announced yesterday finding the bodies of two smugglers after thwarting an infiltration attempt by individuals and vehicles coming from Syria on Friday.

The Jordanian forces have been implementing intensive searching and inspections along the border strip with Syria where the smugglers’ bodies were found with amounts of narcotics and they were referred to the competent authorities, a military source of the armed forces told media outlets.

On Sunday, the Jordanian army announced confiscating large quantities of drugs, military ammunition and vehicles prepared for smuggling from Syrian border.

The security forces confiscated on Friday amounts of 9,343,000 pills of Captagon, 38,900 tramadol pills, 7,096 handful of cannabis (Hashish), 199 BKCs, 63 Kalashnikov weapons and two vehicles.

In late January, the Jordanian army declared it killed 27 drug smugglers and wounded others to foil attempts of smuggling large quantity of narcotic substances coming from Syria.

In January, Amman informed Damascus of the need to combat smuggling.

In September, al-Hunaiti received Syrian Minister of Defense Ali Ayoub in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

The two parties discussed coordination to ensure the security of the common borders between the two countries, the situation in southern Syria, combating terrorism, and joint efforts to confront cross-border smuggling.

Jordan forces thwarted a smuggling operation of over 15 million of Captagon pills in 2021 and 5,5 million in the first two weeks of 2022.
