- NYC Mayor Eric Adams has deployed 1,000 cops and 30 teams of health workers to address homelessness and crime in the city's subway
- The Subway Safety Plan calls on officers to step up enforcement of subway rules and empty trains at the end of the line
- The officers will be accompanied by health workers who will help the mentally ill and point them to the city's support services
- The plan also involves an expansion of Kendra's Law, a 1999 statue that allows judges to force outpatient treatment for mentally ill people
- Gov. Kathy Hochul said the state will provide 1,100 beds for psychiatric and homeless shelter use as part of a $39.5 million statewide initiative
- The state will also invest $9 million a year to recruit mental health workers
