Germany prepares for Ukrainian refugee influx More than 50,000 Ukrainians have fled country in 48 hours, UN says [IsraelTimes] Most moving to Poland and Moldova, and many more are heading for the borders, officials say. Already on Thursday, the UN refugee agency warned that some 100,000 people had been displaced inside the country, and on Friday it said large numbers were fleeing into neighboring countries. Those arriving in neighboring countries were mostly women, children and the elderly after Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday banned men of military age from leaving the country. A woman from Kyiv who arrived in Przemsyl, Poland, broke down in tears describing how men were pulled off trains in Ukraine before they got to the border. The Ukrainian authorities, another woman said, "were nice, not rude, but they said that men have a duty to defend the country." |
