EU partners to hand over 70 war planes to Ukrainian Army
2022-03-01
[Ukrinform] Foreign partners will hand over as many as 70 warplanes to the Ukrainian Army — MiG-29s and Su-25s — to repel Russian aggression.

As Ukrinform reports, the Land Forces of Ukraine announced this on Facebook.

"’Ghosts of Kyiv’ will now have more! Plus 70 planes for the Ukrainian Army! Our partners are giving us MiG-29s and Su-25s! If necessary, they will be able to be based on Polish airfields from which Ukrainian pilots will perform combat missions," said the report.

Bulgaria will hand over 16 MiG-29s and 14 Su-25s, Poland — 28 MiG-29s, and Slovakia — 12 MiG-29s.

As Ukrinform reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky insists on a full no-fly zone for the Russian missiles, planes, and helicopters.

#14  I'm sure Putin's nuke comments had nothing to do with the Polish/Slavakian change of heart.

#13  From what I read the planes have too many Nato upgrades their pilots don't know how to use and ground crews can't support

European plan to donate fighter jets to Ukraine collapses

Soon after, a Ukrainian government official told POLITICO their country had sent pilots to Poland to pick up the jets and the Ukrainian parliament announced that the planes from Slovakia, Bulgaria and Poland would soon be on their way.

But by Tuesday, Bulgaria and Slovakia said there was no deal to send fighters, and the Polish president, appearing at a Polish air base alongside NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg, said no planes would be flying any time soon.

#11  All the hafta do is fly along the 40 mile long convoy headed to Kiev. How can they miss?

I expect the Soviets ... excuse me, Russians - might have some planes of their own flying top cover for their tempting column of targets.

#10  Doing some reading it looks like the newer variants fix that issue?

#9  with no operational ground control radar to vector them onto targets they are simply targets themselves

That seems kinda-sorta important. Makes me wonder if the fighter plane offers are just a form of virtue signaling.

#8  Like I said yesterday - with no operational ground control radar to vector them onto targets they are simply targets themselves

#7  Putin is becoming so enraged over this, I'm half expecting to see video of him eating his tie. A humiliated and angry man with bloodlust and nukes is very dangerous.

#5  Air incursions from Poland is bad juju.

#4  @2 yeah that caught my eye too. Russia could argue that NATO is now interfering since it is allowing hostile planes to base from its territory and strike/invade Poland as reprisal. Easy to expand this war with that little tidbit.

#3   Missions from polish airfields?

Doubtful. That would drag NATO into the game.
