| Over 200 Bandits Killed In Niger State In Two Days |

Over 200 bandits were killed in Niger State between Sunday and Tuesday in a joint security operation, the government has said. Emmanuel Umar, the state Commissioner for Local Government Chieftaincy Affairs & Internal Security told journalists during a press briefing in Minna on Wednesday that it was a major victory for the state, in its fight against terrorists and bandits. Niger State is being terrorised by bandits, who have been attacking communities, killing and abducting residents. For instance, last Saturday, bandits attacked over 10 villages in the Lavun Local Government Area of the state resulting in the death of eight persons while several others sustained injuries of varying degrees. The bandits, numbering about 100, reportedly launched attacks on Egbako, Ndaruka, Ebbo, Ndagbegi, Tshogi, Gogata and Ndakogitu communities. Others are Satisu, Yekoko, Satifu and Sokiara communities in the council. It was learnt that the operation continued till Sunday. The assailants reportedly ransacked each community and unleashed havoc on the residents and rustled an unconfirmed number of cattle. |
