| Turkish intelligence arrests Kurdish official in Afrin |

ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) – A Syrian opposition faction affiliated with the Turkish intelligence arrested, yesterday,a security official of the Kurds Independent Association in the city of Afrin north of Aleppo, north Syria. A local source told North Press that the Turkish intelligence arrested Khaled Ibish, the security official and member of the Kurds Independent Association in Afrin who hails from Hamam village of Jindires district in the countryside of Afrin. An office of the association was opened in Afrin city in July 2018 chaired by Abdulaziz Tammo. The Kurds Independent Association was founded in 2016 during a conference that was held in the city of Urfa south Turkey. The association supported Turkish military operations carried out on Syrian soil including the Turkish invasion of Afrin in 2018 and those were launched in the cities of Ras al-Ain (Sere Kaniye) and Tel Abyad in 2019. The Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed factions took control over Afrin city and its countryside in March 2018 following a violent military operation. The Turkish operation called “Olive Branch” displaced over 300,000 indigenous people towards the northern countryside of Aleppo where several camps were established to shelter them, while some residents resorted to villages there. Meanwhile, others headed to areas held by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) northeast Syria. Since then, the region has been witnessing ongoing security chaos accompanied by infighting among militants of the Turkish-backed factions, arrests, and kidnappings amid the factions’ disability to settle the security and spread safety.
