2022-03-25 |
The Nigerian Army has announced that troops of Operation Desert Sanity on Wednesday destroyed Boko Haram/ISWAP’s Vehicle with an Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) to carry out a suicide attack, along with their enclaves. The army disclosed this in a tweet on Thursday. “Troops of Operation Desert Sanity destroyed Boko Haram/ISWAP’s Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) and their enclaves around Njimia-Alafa axis in Borno State yesterday (Wednesday) 23 March 2022. Offensive clearance operation is still ongoing to deter terrorists' freedom of action,” the army said. Since the death of JAS leader, Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has been consolidating its grip in locations around Lake Chad. The sect’s membership has swollen with the defection of hundreds of Boko Haram fighters under Shekau. The terror group has caused over 300,000 deaths and displaced millions of individuals mainly in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
