McConnell: ‘I cannot and will not' support Jackson for Supreme Court
2022-03-25
[Washington Examiner] Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Thursday he would not support Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

"I cannot and will not support Judge Jackson for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court," McConnell said in remarks on the Senate floor.

McConnell argued Jackson was not prepared to answer questions on her judicial record or philosophy, arguing her record was more sparse than previous nominees.

He also criticized Jackson for not taking a position on the size of the Supreme Court when asked about calls from progressives to add additional justices to counteract the current conservative balance.

"The most radical pro-court packing fringe groups badly wanted this nominee for this vacancy," McConnell said. "Judge Jackson was the court packer’s pick, and she testified like it."

Jackson’s nomination, McConnell argued, is part of a push from the Biden administration to make the nation "softer on crime."

"The judge regularly gave certain terrible kinds of criminals light sentencing guidelines," McConnell said, repeating Republican arguments that Jackson's sentences for child pornography offenders as a trial judge were lenient. Jackson said her sentences were within legal norms and guidelines that judges must consider as a matter of law.

#7  McConnell is putting his foot down ... while on the side telling Romney, Sasse and everybody who is not running for reelection to vote for her. He is a man firm in the principles that he signals whenever his chances of party leadership in the next session look in doubt. Most of the Republican Senators just bluster and play act like conservatives while the several votes that Schumer needs he gets. The "moderates" rotate through the betrayal in sequence so that everyone's voting record looks like it is on the up and up. This is a case where McConnell and Graham get to act like hard guys. Romney, Sasse and Portman will vote with the Dems this time.

#4  If she can't give a definition of the word "woman" she is not qualified to hold any public office. You don't need to be a biologist to do that. All you need is to be a human being with a little bit of common sense. Ketanji Brown Jackson doesn't qualify.

That's really disturbing. I didn't know this about her. How can anyone even think about appointing a justice who doesn't support the integrity and independence of the Supreme Court? Hope the Republicans stand firm on this one

#2  She already has been nominated. What is going on now is the confirmation process.

#1  If she doesn't get nominated Americans should thank their stars she was soft on pronography and made some mistakes. But the next afromarxist bitch they find will be pristine.
