Ukraine's Military Says Russia Now Partially Withdrawn From Kiev; Pentagon Calls It Deceptive ‘Repositioning’
2022-03-30
[ZERO] Update (1510ET): Ukraine's The Kyiv Independent English language news portal is citing the country's military who say Russian forces have partially withdrawn from Kyiv and Chernihiv, after the Kremlin said coming off "constructive" negotiations in Istanbul that the military would drastically reduce operations near the two major cities.

"According to Ukraine’s military, the Russian army is regrouping in the east to concentrate its military power in the area. In the south, Russia is preparing to resume offensive operations," the Kyiv-based outlet wrote.

#14  Singapore's PM dismisses USA as a "supplicant" begging and pleading humbly for assistance from China

"Richard Haass, who heads the Council on Foreign Relations, interviewed Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore about the impact of the war in Ukraine on the U.S. and its allies' relationships with China.

"I'm not a Beijing whisperer," the Prime Minister of Singapore noted. "We cannot [help you with China]. We are not part of the family. We are an ethnic Chinese-majority country in Southeast Asia. Multiracial, multireligious, with independent national interest and priorities, and they treat us as such and we remind them that is so."

"The Chinese have taken their own position" on Ukraine and Taiwan "and they consider you a supplicant asking them to help solve the Russian problem," he explained.

Russia's ruble rebound raises questions of sanctions' impact

"The ruble’s recovery could be a sign that the sanctions in their current form are not working as powerfully as Ukraine's allies counted on when it comes to pressuring Putin to pull his troops from Ukraine.

😂😂😂😂 "not working as powerfully as counted upon"

"It also could be a sign that Russia's efforts to artificially prop up its currency are working by leveraging its oil and gas sector. The ruble was trading at roughly 85 to the U.S. dollar, roughly where it was before Russia started its invasion a month ago."

#11  Failing with India, too:

"While most of the world’s major democracies have rallied to Ukraine’s cause, the world’s largest democracy has conspicuously declined to publicly take sides in the conflict.

Earlier this month, India joined with 34 other countries that abstained from the United Nations’ motion condemning Russia’s attack, and it has continued to abstain from U.N. General Assembly motions taking stances against Moscow’s aggression. India’s [Western] allies have firmly, yet fruitlessly, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to reconsider its stance.

Shortly after India’s first U.N. vote abstention, the U.S. State Department dispatched, then retracted, a diplomatic cable referring to the subcontinent as being “in Russia’s camp.” The European Union, United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan later held multiple mostly hopeless discussions with New Delhi to persuade it to fully divest from Russia. Last week, U.S. President Joe Biden claimed in a public address that the United States and its allies “presented a united front” against Russian President Vladimir Putin—then called out India, exclusively, for “being somewhat shaky” on the issue.

#10   According to Beijing, the lesson for small countries is don’t be used as a pawn. The U.S. will manipulate them into fighting proxy wars against its adversaries.

Whereas China historically has financed Maoist terror groups to overthrow the governments of small countries including India, and in recent years has been fomenting BLM actions in the U.S.

Don’t listen to China, “small” countries! China is asshole.

#9   Germany announced today it will begin to ration gas to its citizens. The US policy is a total failure.

German rationing is a German failure. President Trump’s observation a few years ago that focussing on energy contracts with Russia would leave Germany at Russia’s mercy when diplomatic winds changed, while his offer to significantly increase shipments of American liquified natural gas was scornfully rejected. And somehow nothing came of Israeli proposals for a pipeline as well.

And of course all those wind power windmills were not able to take up the slack when Germany’s coal-powered and nuclear power plants were decommissioned. So Germany must ration while reversing course. Again, all German policies — nothing to do with America.

#8  China refuses to join the West in punishing Russia

China's foreign ministry is joining the West in denouncing Biden's dangerous fantasies of regime change:

"Far from backing away from an anti-Western position, top Chinese diplomats are pressing their case. Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng have made statements since the invasion blaming the U.S. for not considering Russia’s security concerns and denouncing the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s eastward expansion.

In China’s telling, the world should have sympathy for Ukraine not because it was attacked by Russia, but because it is the victim of a reckless U.S. bid to maintain geopolitical dominance.

According to Beijing, the lesson for small countries is don’t be used as a pawn. The U.S. will manipulate them into fighting proxy wars against its adversaries.

#7  EPIC FAIL:
Germany braces for GAS RATIONING as Putin’s rouble payment deadline approaches

Russia’s top lawmaker suggested that Russia should also switch to rouble payments for other commodities. Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament, said in a post on Telegram: “If you want gas, find roubles,” before suggesting that rouble payments should be extended to oil, grains, metals, fertiliser, coal and timber for roubles on global markets

#6  could have fooled me
Yes, you were fooled. Zelensky is now desperate and dying for peace. Putin is playing with him like a cat with a wounded mouse.

Russia has achieved all its war aims in the south and is nearly finished in the east. Biden has disgraced himself on the world stage. People are calling for his removal, while Putin's grip on power is strong as ever.

Russia is dictating terms to his German and other western customers. The rouble has already made up all of its losses and hit 79 today. The resistance mark is around 85 which means that readers expect it to continue making gains.

The OPEC nations are solidly behind Russia and China refuse to join the West in punishing Russia. China, India and all the non western nations are avoiding or busting the sanctions, which are actually punishing the West. Germany announced today it will begin to ration gas to its citizens. The US policy is a total failure.

#2  Kiev was never the focus. The base that matters is Sevastopol. Securing it by creating a cordon across the Black Sea coast and the Sea of Azov was the essential goal for Russia, along with ending the torture and slaughter of Russian speakers in the East. The Russians are very closed to finally securing all of their goals and are just toying with Zelensky now. Putin isn't even bothering to make plans to come to Istanbul.
