#24  How much food corn could we sell to the staring masses of Africa, Asia, and Europe, I wonder?

#23  And one more to blame Dron for... ;-)

"I am taking these Britons to tea
For they're selling their Typhoo to me,
But though I shall take it,
The Brits will still make it,
Since tea's their chapati and ghee."

Cool to learn in light of an ancestor's supposed fondness for the stuff.

#22  "Wife grudging and sullen... again."
How tragic for Japanese men!
No one to feel close to
For Tojo or Ozu...

#21  By Allah, one delicate petal
Survives amidst dust, meat, and metal!
Is aught like the bloom
When a rose goes kaboom?

#20  Off the "increasingly tenuous connections" pile...

The open society! Pr0n
And yesterday's kernels of cr0n,
Though quite as banal
As a crane or canal,
Are for some much more thrilling,
Eh, Popper? "Fulfilling
And wholesome as dew in the mr0n!"

#17  Use of Corn to produce Ethanol has improved a lot in the past 30 years or so.

The process is far more energy efficient than it used to be and markets have developed for many of the byproducts.

The US produces far, far more corn than needed for animal feed and human use. Furthermore, in 2021 about 15 billion bushels were produced compared to only about 10 billion bushels per year in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

At $40/gal for oil, ethanol added doesn't save much but at $100/gal it does.

Corn? Scorn! Pôrn is
food and food is põrn.

The State hath decided,
though rabbis chided.

Henceforth you can all
guzzle 'E' for ethanol.

We also sell 3D printed
Whatsit Boneless.

But for the discerning,
when for meat yearning;

It's only 'Caramelized
Thigh du Homeless'.

#13  Thanks, DB. I figured it was something like that, the actual details are all searchable on the internet but it's just not on my plate today. So I appreciate hearing it from you.

#11  M. Murcek corn grown for E-15 is the same corn used for animal feed. Less corn for feed the higher the price. Beef, chicken, and pork prices will continue to rise. Blame Big Meet (sarc).

#9  IMPORTANT: Not all UNLEADED Fueled vehicles can handle E1-5.

According to US DOT statements "...90 percent of all vehicles on the road today fall into this 2001-and-up category, so chances are that's your vehicle."

In plain English, 10% of the US vehicles on the road cannot.

Question: Will this damage my lawnmower, boat, jet ski, snowmobile, or four-wheeler?
Answer: It sure will if you don't pay attention. Generally, small engines are not designed to deal with the more corrosive E15 blend.

PLUS: Producers will use about 1/3 MORE energy (BTU's) in producing E-15 fuels than is generated by the fuel itself.

PLUS: How long does E-15 gas last? Well E10 Ethanol-blended gas lasts up to three months. Expert Sources are saying E15 will last less than 2 months in the summer heat, as Ethanol evaporation is quicker with E-15 vs E-10.

Better stock up on Gas Stabilizer, and/or pay the extra 50 to 70 cents for real Gas per gallon.

BTW: there is sure to be a run to the pumps to get E-10... another Toilet Paper shortage in the making.

#8  I've had several people explain to me over the years that corn grown for ethanol is not corn I'd want to eat. I have no idea if that's true, but I've heard it from multiple parties. Of course, there's still the issue that turning corn into ethanol uses lots of water and energy, so it's not a "all gain, no pain" proposition. Then there's the fertilizer issue. Then there's the "this isn't going to happen in the next 60 days, let alone before the end of the summer.

The administration is just flailing. They will probably lose both houses of congress to the Pubs, but the GOPe will assure that's no big improvement.

We would probably be better off if every American was just shipped a 55 gallon drum of potable grain ethanol ASAP.

#7  But I thought there was going to be a food shortage? Taking food off the plates of the disadvantaged to fuel the hydrocarbon-guzzling SUV's of Global Warming Denialists?

Maybe I should write headlines for MSNBC...

#5  This might p*ss off many indigenous folks too as they tend to believe that corn is spiritually food and not fuel.

Besides, E15 reduces my newer truck's MPG substantially. It would kill my older vehicles.
