German authorities announced yesterday the arrest of a former member of Syrian Salafist militias.

The arrestee belonged to the Kata’ib al-Sham and Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
, with whom he committed terrorist acts between 2012 and 2014, according to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

"At times, the group had between 10,000 and 20,000 fighters, making it one of the strongest organizations involved in the armed insurgency against the Syrian government in 2013," the Prosecutor’s Office said.

The arrestee was armed and had access to armored vehicles and weapons, as well as he claimed that he purchased pieces of military equipment in Germany, the Prosecutor’s Office stated.

The arrestee traveled four times from Germany to Syria between August 2012 and January 2014 and participated in operations by the aforementioned militias, according to German media outlets.
