Florida votes to strip Disney of privileged tax and self governing status: Ron DeSantis strikes first blood in culture war win as panicked media giant considers 'bringing back Bob Iger' to steady rocky ship
2022-04-21
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News]
  • The Republican-led Senate voted to end the Reedy Creek Improvement District

  • It means the firm will no longer be able operate as a self-contained government

  • It rips up the 55-year-old deal that allowed Disney to effectively self-govern itself

  • But it may see two Florida counties saddled with $1billion of debt owed by Disney

  • It is the latest escalation in the ongoing battle between Ron DeSantis and Disney

  • It started when its bosses opposed the 'Don't Say Gay' bill and enraged governor

#16  Also Netflix was one of the companies that disappeared the D&D episode of Community because of some incorrect claim of blackface. I have issues with that.

#15  Netflix has become terrible. I've never searched for a Bollywood movie or an LBGT+ movie and yet that's all that I see when I log in. Show me what I'm likely to want to see or I'll try another service that will.

#14  It isn't just Wokeflix making awful content, Groomer+ is about to squeeze its anal sac all over Buzz Lightyear. Pixar, who has shown themselves to be the more dedicated enjoyers of Xerxes' tent, bringing this film right at parents who will share it with a family movie night.

#13  Disney is in Orange County, FLA and Orange County, CA. Is that a coincidence or did they get to name the county in FLA?

#12  Groomer+ need to discharge the debts they incurred. This is not a corporate takeover. Orlando can put a lien on the Groomer+ locally sourced revenues until the debts are discharged.

Lies about their debts are just more disinformation from the Daily Fail

#11  "OK, Groomer"

#10  Orange County has been run like Clark County, NV for some time. Now the bill comes due. Unlike Vegas, there's no m0b guys the county commissioners can look to for help.

#9  "Read the bill to find out what's in the bill (and what's not in the bill)" has gone out of fashion.

#8  First Blood my ass. Well overdue. Seem to remember Miley "Hannah Montana" Cyrus getting the Disney Grooming Business, some cush pop chart hits for whatever garbage that was, and what all she went on to influence.

I also seem to remember that Groomer+ thought they could just get a phone, and a pen, and dictate to De Santis to shelf this bill because....adults should be able to sexually assault toddlers so long as it is on school grounds? Florida Public Schools......perhaps add some sort of defamation suit vs. Groomer+, public attempt to sully Florida School System reputation? They approached under false flag and opened with carronades, full broadside and shiver their timbers.

But it may see two Florida counties saddled with $1billion of debt owed by Disney

Daily Mail is garbage, so I ask, is this money Groomer+ would have spent on its own to upkeep but now the county would upkeep with the increased tax base, so not "saddled"? BTW, saddled makes Urban Dictionary so nice choice of words.

Too little too late.

#6  Florida is the land of the "ad-valorem" property assessment. Anyone saying Disney is going to become tax exempt over this is mouthing BS.

#5  Its not scorched earth, it is a measured first strike. The lib left is pouring disinformation out saying the State will not inherit Disney's infrastructure debt. Not true.

#4  Wasn't Iger and his political ambitions when Disney went completely nuts?

#3  Either way, the major shareholders in Disney had a collective hissy fit.

#2  The bill just passed wipes out all similarly arrangements made after 1960. The Disney arrangement dates from 1968. So, it cannot be said that it's designed specifically targeted to punish Disney, which will be important when it lands in court. Also, the legislation allows for the arrangements to be re-established via negotiations between the state and the parties involved. This opens the door for accommodations to be made. So calling it "scorched earth" is hyperbole.

#1  Article lies. The bill says nothing about trans or homosexual. It simply states that you cannot talk about sexual matters to small children in school.
Mail Online knows this - or should if they claim to be 'journalists'. But they are deliberately stating a falsehood. That is called LYING.
