The Great Ethanol Reset
2022-05-06
By NN2N1

It seems there is a lot more to switching from Ethanol 90/10 to 85/15 blended gas than just making it and pumping it through the same lines, thus initially mixing it up for a few days.

Having spoke with Fire Personnel in on the loop. It involves everything from the Factory, its lines to the interstate Pipelines to the Metro area tanks and the 1203 Semi-Tankers hauling gas. All must all be must be made ready for the switch.

Note: 15% based fuel is more likely to evaporate and be ignited by static electric discharges than 90/10, especially in warmer months.

The Gas Tank Farm (storage facility) in Doraville, GA area recently alerted Metro-Atlanta FD's they were starting the initial prep work for the switchover process and would be "temporarily" halting the incoming pipeline flow to do the work. Because the prep work itself would cause some additional potential fire and safety issues.

Gas prices are already increasing in many areas.

NOTE: In general, ethanol has about 33 percent less energy than gasoline. So, the more ethanol in the fuel, the worse the fuel economy you are going to get (Less Miles per Gallon).

BTW: Ethanol evaporation is a major source of air pollution in the USA. And it takes more energy to produce Ethanol for Gas than the Energy it saves using it.

#15   there are Burg regulars who are sources in their own rights.

Most of them, in fact, if asked the right question when they’re in the right mood — isn’t it marvelous! I don’t doubt quite a few of our visitors would be, too, if only they’d stop trying to sell the unsellable and answer the questions we would have asked if we knew what they do. (Or answer the questions our various subject/methods experts do ask...)

#14  You could "un-denature" it with the appropriate column distillation rig. But if you had that, you'd be better off starting with a good mash recipe.

#13  “ Most of the fuel ethanol produced around the world is made by fermenting the sugar in the starches of grains such as corn, sorghum, and barley, and the sugar in sugar cane and sugar beets. Denaturants are added to ethanol to make fuel ethanol undrinkable.” plants require water produced in an aquifer, then more water to produce ethanol. If the USA and the rest of the world have food supply problems, we will let them starve! Let’s go Brandon.

#10  Casual discussion this morning with my mindlessly knee-jerk dem voting neighbor who had no idea that the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is for, you know, strategic events, like being in a war, as opposed to being a piggy bank for Bidet to fail at manipulating gasoline prices.

And the guy's thinning hair almost fell out when I told him about the E-15 thing.

TS correct...
Some data was gleaned from casually speaking several sources that work the Metro-Atlanta and surrounding counties Fire Dept's.

Plus a simple D2D search on:
"Ethanol pollution"
"Mileage differences between Blends"
"Energy to needed to produce Ethanol"
then weeding out BS, verse actual research.
