#12  I worked with someone who was a crewman on Marine-1 back in the 60's (Johnson->Nixon) He told of flying somewhere to pick up a canoe for an an officer . They found out that the Grumman plant they chose that had an airfield didn't make canoes only aircraft!
The one I witnessed was back around 1979. While waiting for my plane in Belize City , a group of British aviators entered the terminal with dollies full of cases of beer. A helicoptor rapidly spooled up . Once the vital supplies were loaded on board it was time to RTB!

#11  Loadmaster story about the Wake Island (?) Fire Engine being flown out, a C-130, the weight/center of gravity calculation from the Equipment Manual in pre-flight, and how much 500 gallons of water weight still in the tank of the fire engine. Some imagination for pilot comments required!

#8  Lots of cross-country training flights in 1989 resulted in our det having to stay out in town because Alameda BEQ/BOQ were full. Obviously a coincidence that World Series was in town that weekend…..
And funny how Intruder cross-countries to/from Maine always arrived w/blivets full of lobster??? Damn stowaways anyway.

#6  Pilots fly the planes. Loadmasters determine what is taken on board.

#5  Pilots and crews are required to do 'x' amount of flight time. How they do that sometimes is irregular from 'normal' exercises. When there was a drought in the Carolinas in the 80s, they had their Air NG fly to NY to pick up bails of hay needed by their farmers from donations by NY farmers. It's flight time.

#4  Nice to know there's enough oversight to catch this. Not nice to know it can selectively go blind with the right piece of paper or phone call.

#1  Some may be shocked at the misuse of government property. I'm a bit shocked that an Air Force crew lacked the low cunning necessary to get away with this scheme.
