Diet Google: ‘Privacy-Focused' DuckDuckGo Fails to Block Microsoft Trackers
2022-05-26
[Breitbart] The allegedly “privacy-focused” search engine DuckDuckGo may not be as private as it claims, according to a recent report. According to researchers and eventually the CEO’s own admission, the site doesn’t block trackers from Microsoft, who provides much of the site’s search content.

Review Geek reports that DuckDuckGo has made a confidential search agreement with Microsoft in which the search engine will not block all Microsoft trackers. DuckDuckGo also only acknowledged the privacy issue after it was noticed by security researchers.

#6  When DDG began to censor searches, that was the beginning of the end for me with DDG.

Re: Bing. Actually, this raised a flag as well. Good gawd how I fooking loathe Bing, mostly because it was the default browser at work with all of the microsoft slop.

I've heard swisscows DOT com is a good one.

#5  It's what I use. Not perfect, but at least search results are not all referrer links as with Google.

#4  This is a task for endpoint security. Use encrypted DNS. Use a VPN. Use your browser's InPrivate or similar feature when making those searches you are worried about. (What are you searching for that you are worrying about, BTW?)

#3  duck duck started using Sting's "I'll be watching you" song in radio based commercials on the theory that you don't want people watching your browser history

#2  Well DuckDuckGo uses Bing as the base engine so it makes sense. That is why I also use the Brave browser. Can't get 'em all but most are blocked.

#1  Not a fan. It's way oversold as a free and clean search engine. And I simply hate animal mascots for tech products. I make an exception for long-gone Elephant Memory brand floppy disks.
