| French army quits Mali base ahead of total pullout |

| [AlAhram] French troops were on Monday handing back a military base in northeastern Mali ahead of a final withdrawal from the Sahel nation, La Belle France's army said, after nine years fighting a jihadist insurgency. And the UN's emissary there warned that their withdrawal could leave Menaka, where they were based, vulnerable to a jihadist attack. The departure from the Menaka base "was conducted in good order, safely and in transparent fashion", said French army front man General Pascal Ianni in Gay Paree. |

| #4 Ah. I thought you meant the terrorists, Pholing Crererong6639. The Tuaregs and such have been smugglers and raiders since time immemorial, as I understand it, and being converted to Islam just added a self-righteous layer of puritanical religious zeal to the exercise. As far as I can tell, just about everyone is tribal and corrupt in that part of the world, making skimming off the top for the benefit of our tribe necessary to replace what the other guys skimmed off when they were in charge — however long ago that might have been. But what I think I know is based on what I’ve read here and elsewhere — quite possibly you are responding from personal observation and/or better sources. |

| #1 The entire reason they have "terrorists" in the first place is because the government abuse the people and treat them like shit, preferring to steal money and store it outside of the country instead of invest it in their people. Fix this and you fix the terrorism. But who would want to do that? It's not in anyone's interest. Well, except the people but fuck them amirite? A basket of deplorables. |
