Gas stations placing $175 hold on ATM Card even before you even fill up.
2022-06-30
[BusinessInsider] Don't we just love the way we are getting screwed on top of screwed over gas prices?
* As gas prices rise, the hold on customers' cards at the pump increased from $125 to $175.

* Having a higher price hold increases the risk of overdraft fees for some consumers.

#8  Is that why Buttgig wants to hire a diverse group of people off the streets, to fill these mission critical positions?

#7  And they are not telling people they are on strike. That is why so many are being stranded at the airports.

So is filling up the tank so you can make it home, but that isn't the bank, card company, ATM company, or gas station's fault.

#4  ^^ Had that happen for the first (and only) time (knock on wood) about four years ago at a 7-11 gas station. A weird charge in Indian rupees (like I said, a 7-11) appeared.

Funny, I drove by that area last week...that petrol station has been levelled. Good.

Debit card for normal purchases? Yeah, no sense.

#3  Pretty much all financial security experts say it's stupid to use a debit card to make purchases. Unlike a credit card, it is a mainline into your bank account. If someone steals the data and empties your account, you have none of the fraud protections that credit cards do.

Yes, I do get some people can't get a traditional credit card. In that instance, a pre-paid credit card is the way to go, for safety's sake.

I don't even use a credit card at the gas station anymore. Skimmer gangs are everywhere. Use your debit card to get cash at an ATM instead.
