Gettysburg 7/1-7/3
2022-07-04
[AmericanGreatness] Gettysburg, which took place in the lead up to July 4th, 1863, remains the greatest battle ever to occur on the North American continent. There is much to learn from
remembering it.
For those who don't visualize from text very well (like me)

#5  Wargaming the Gettysburg battle (multiple games) and reading the battle histories made me amazed how little we (most people) understand about the battle. Read some of the history books or play a wargame and you know ahead of time the battlefield and the troop movements ... not the 'Fog of War' they fought under and the horrible pressure of knowing that what they did mattered (and they had only one shot and no 'do overs')!

Bravery even in the mistakes.

#4  Gettysburg is supposed to be one of the most haunted places in America, and, although I'm not into the whole haunting thing, it's not hard to see why. Always something moving just out of your field of vision.

#3  ...27 years ago, we went to Gettysburg and spent three days there, walking the entire battlefield.

That will put the fear of God into you.

#1  Walking away from the Visitor's Center movie at Gettysburg 10-15 years ago, I overheard some twit telling her husband, "Wow, that's worse than Vietnam!"

40,000 in a single battle - yes, sweetheart, that is worse than Vietnam.
