| US Navy offers cash for tips to seize Mideast drugs, weapons |

| [AnNahar] The U.S. Navy's Mideast-based 5th Fleet is starting to offer rewards for information that could help sailors intercept weapons, drugs and other illicit shipments across the region amid tensions over Iran's nuclear program and Tehran's arming of Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... 's Iran's Houthi sock puppets ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the JewsThey like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him... rebels. |

| #1 This one is a head scratcher for me. Certainly, you can see the small fast-movers traveling from Iran to Oman on a surface search radar, but I don’t know what authority we have to interdict traffic in the Gulf of Oman. Who are we planning on getting tips from? Iranians or Omani’s? To my knowledge, we don’t have a naval presence in either country. We probably still gas up in Oman, but I think the nearest naval set is in Bahrain or Dubai. This type of intel op does not seem like something that the Navy would be good at. The money would become more of a donation at best. At worst, we will interdict a shipment of dynamite with a remote detonator. |
