Russian Navy takes delivery of Putin's super sub: Largest submarine to be built in 30 years that has enough firepower to take out entire cities and unleash 'radioactive tsunamis' is set to go into service
2022-07-09
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Belgorod is the biggest sub built in 30 years at over 600ft long and 30,000 tons

  • Can carry 6 80ft Poseidon torpedoes with up to 100 megaton nuclear warheads

  • Coastal attack would cause 500m tsunami and 'devastating' radiation spread

  • Russian Navy chief claimed the sub will be used for scientific research missions

  • Experts fear sub could sabotage undersea cables with special unmanned drones

  • Delivered to Russian Navy yesterday after being spotted on surface last month

#25  @#21 - And didn't Boeing get a gov't bailout in the 1970's or '80's?

#24  When we lived in Western Europe after the Berlin Wall fell — that is, when Mr. Wife’s large international corporation parked the trailing daughters and me in Germany/Belgium while he flew back and forth developing new products for markets in Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union — it struck me as interesting that the entire managerial class over there (and in most of the world, in fact) had doctorates in whatever they did thereafter, while in America many managers had only bachelor degrees or in the C Suite mere MBAs or the equivalent. Several of Mr. Wife’s colleagues explained to me that he must be a genius to accomplish what he did with only a BS in chemical engineering. To us that’s silly, but they could not conceive of anyone less trained having the necessary level of knowledge.

This goes back a while. Even my mother’s farmer uncles in Germany back in the 1930s, in a family that had bred cattle for generations, all had PhDs or JDs.

#22  always have repeat to me that the Russians where lights years away from us in big science

A couple of possibilities:

  • He was flattering his visitors for some purpose of his own

  • The difference between a science culture and an engineering culture, or theoretical science versus applied science

#18  And with Iran only "months away" from having "the bomb", we will really have our work cut out for us. But it's been about 360 months we've been waiting, so maybe things won't be all that bad just yet.

#17  ^ Perhaps this time, with all the resources of the Brandon Administration on their side, the Germans will triumph.

OK, I'm messing with ya! Brandon couldn't organize an Easter egg hunt. And besides, WW3 isn't until next year in the South China Sea.

#16  The scariest thing about this World War Three starting is, that we are on the Germans' side.

They've never won a World War yet.

#15  A German walks into a bar and orders a beer.

The bartender tells him : "100 euros!"

The German is shocked - "100 euros? yesterday it was only 10 euros !"

"Well, today it is 100 euros."

    - "But why 100, damn it?"

Bar tender : "I'll explain it,

    -10 euros is beer,

    -10 to help Ukraine,

-20 assistance to European countries who have imposed sanctions and are not members of the EU.

-10 euros in aid to the UK, for successful implementation of sanctions against Russia.

-Then 10 euros are sent to the Balkan countries as aid to buy furnace coal.

    - and finally, 40 euros for a gas subsidy for the EU and fund to help maintain sanctions!"

The German silently took out the money and gave the bartender 100 euros.

The bartender took them, entered in the cash register and gave him 10 euros back

German in disbelief : "Wait, you said 100 euros, right ? I gave you 100, why are you giving me back 10 euros?"

    *"Ahh.. We have no beer!”*

#12  My neighbor, the retired director of procurement for Boing/Rockedyne (A. G. ) introduced me to many Russians engineers at some backyard parties many years ago and always have repeat to me that the Russians where lights years away from us in big science
Their people are way more advanced and educated than us.
Russians care about reliability, they do not believe in planed obsolescence
This sub may rust somewhere but when the moment comes it will be used

Of course the model above only works in the epicenter is in the middle of Elliot Bay in Pudget Sound. (About 5 miles from Downtown Seattle). Unlikely.
