Former SC Attorney To be Charged With Murder Of Wife And Son...
2022-07-13
...For those who may not have been following this story, it would be popcorn-worthy were it not for the fact that at least two people are dead, and - up to this point - as many as FIVE, though that's still being looked at by the authorities.

Short version: A drug addicted embezzling lawyer into his dealers for possibly millions and likely fixing cases, a bank that was helping him out, a suspicious wife about to file for divorce, a deranged and possibly homicidal alcoholic teenager, a suicide-for-insurance plot that literally misfired, a maid who died under extremely suspicious circumstances, a drug-dealing cousin who was a lousy choice for a hit man, and two dead classmates of the above mentioned teenager. As they used to say on the radio, stay tuned...

[WSOCTV] A lawyer for disgraced South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh said Tuesday that investigators have indicated they intend to pursue murder charges against him for the deaths of his wife and son, who were fatally shot outside their home more than a year ago.

Murdaugh already faces dozens of criminal charges that have piled up in the months since his wife Maggie, 52, and their 22-year-old son, Paul, were killed. But until now he has not been charged in connection with their deaths; he’s repeatedly denied any role in those killings.

Maggie and Paul Murdaugh were shot several times between 9 and 9:30 p.m. the night of June 7, 2021, outside their home on the family’s land near Islandton, authorities said. Their bodies were found near dog kennels, according to Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey.

The South Carolina Supreme Court also disbarred Murdaugh on Tuesday, confirming the inevitable after Murdaugh’s attorneys declined to contest arguments at a June disbarment hearing. In the order, the state Supreme Court noted its decision “in no way” affects ongoing investigations.

#9  No, but it's on my list. I mostly read crime novels when I'm not reading history, biography or technical literature. I've read all of Westlake, so I'm sure I will like it.

#8  ^ Seen The Outfit, MM? It was such a refreshing change from all the candy ass limpdickery nowadays. Old school.

#7  The Murdaugh story has elements of Double Indemnity, too

#6  ^ One of my absolute favorites. The plot can best be described as everyone double-crosses one another until there's only one person left.

Fantastic film.

#5  If you believe you couldn't sell it as a crime story script, you never seen Blood Simple.

#4  ...This is going to get well and truly ugly - the Murdaugh family was, to put it gently, 'entitled', and there's a LOT of questions as to whether or not Alex was completely honest with the court as to whether or not he's accounted for all his funds. (And just to be on the safe side, the state has frozen his surviving son's accounts too.)

State Law Enforcement Division - a state police agency that answers ONLY to the Governor, and has the kind of reputation for honesty, integrity, and ferocity that the FBI used to have - is going over everything this guy touched, because there's a feeling he might have been fixing cases. His family law firm 86'd him, a friend who worked at a large local bank was helping him steal and quite possibly launder money, and the Feds are keeping an eye on that.

#3  Totally in Netfix territory.

#2  If you tried to sell it as a crime movie screenplay, it would be considered too unbelievable, even though the villain of the story is a white guy.

#1  Truly, you don’t get more lurider than this.
