Moment Russia 'accidentally shoots down one of its own $40million fighter jets over eastern Ukraine'
2022-07-20
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Pro-Russian Telegram channel published footage of flaming wreck falling from the sky over Luhansk overnight Sunday, saying Moscow's forces shot it down

  • Video taken in region on Monday showed wreckage of the aircraft on the ground

  • But visible on the side of the aircraft was the name of Russia's Aerospace Forces

  • It is now thought Putin's forces shot down one of their own jets - likely a $40million variant of the Su-34 fighter-bomber

#15  Russia has previously stated that if U.S. long range weapons are used against "Russian territory" then Russia will declare the US an active combatant, and will take military action.

They've been promising to kill themselves with nukes pretty much since the war started. I don't see it. If they use nukes, we get MAD. Russia's population goes down 90%. In fact, Russia becomes China - not figuratively, but literally, as the PLA streams across the border, and heads over the Urals to Ukraine.

If they don't use nukes, they lose in Ukraine. If they use nukes, they lose in Ukraine anyway, in addition to losing Russia to China*. My bet is they don't use nukes.

Nuclear war with the Russians wasn't averted because they were such great humanitarians. The leadership consisted of normal human beings who wanted to live. The extermination of Russia would have been a far worse fate than losing the Cold War. So they settled for losing the Cold War.

If they could kill the West without being killed in return, they might have pushed the button. But that's exactly why we have the nuclear triad - so they can only by paying the ultimate price.

* In the unlikely scenario China doesn't invade a Russia with 90% of the population dead, well - 90% of Russia's population is dead. A Russia with 15m people left is a Russia that will whack the Putins and every single associate of his, related by blood or not. Someone has to take the blame.

#11  Friendly fire is a common… The rate of friendly fire deaths for all U.S. troops in War II was 12-14 percent.
But something more important happened today, July 18
The United States Embassy in Kiev, Ukraine, has increased its Alert status and is now publicly advising all Americans to get out of Ukraine IMMEDIATELY. All Embassy functions will be transferred to Lviv, in western Ukraine.

This also seems to coincide with intelligence reports saying Ukraine plans to use new HIMARS MLRS to attack Crimea. Russia has previously stated that if U.S. long range weapons are used against "Russian territory" then Russia will declare the US an active combatant, and will take military action.

#4  More than half of the Russian air force aircraft in service and shot down, at the time of the war in south Ossetia (2008), were shot down by friendly fire.
