What kind of miracle is this? But the real miracle lies elsewhere. It turns out that the person in question is trying to save CNN in this way. At the beginning of the year, it turned out that the channel had lost 90 percent of its audience. Yes, this is not even a miracle, but the surest sign of the end of the world. Or at least the end of democracy - in the US and among its allies.
Some 40+ years ago, CNN was the unattainable model of television journalism. The idea of ​​continuously broadcasting news in real time and around the world seemed brilliant. State leaders received information first from CNN, then from official reports. The war in Iraq (the first of which was in 1991) was broadcast live, as well as many other wars. There were parody thrillers on this subject. For example, in the novel "Tomorrow Never Dies" by Raymond Benson (one of the successors of the immortal James Bond series), a channel is described that broadcasts news about a nuclear weapons crisis a few seconds before this news occurs, because the channel owner himself organized. Angry, but a compliment.
And now - the complete death of the gods. The figure of 90 percent was recorded in the first week of January, compared with the same week of the previous year: then there were 5.4 million viewers. Now the average audience stuck to the screen at any given moment has settled at 640,000 people. And if so, advertising has declined - for the first time in a long time, annual revenues from it are below one billion dollars.
Convulsions began. The channel was merged with Warner Media, the idea was put forward to open a streaming service, the idea was canceled, the management changed, the aforementioned Chris Licht was brought in. And this man finally said the main words: it's time to be honest and objective. For this, he went to Capitol Hill to recruit Republicans. The channel must change.
You may have heard about some of these changes. Or rather, see them. We are talking about a short TV show on the topic of how daily caravans of cars go to the liberated territories of Ukraine from the western Ukrainian lands - supposedly on business, but those traveling are taking things, children and relatives with them. And there is almost no reverse flow in the frame, because there really is none. And yes, this is a CNN story.
Just yesterday it seemed that the global "empire of lies" was impenetrable. What we saw on the example of the same Ukrainian operation. Someone, somewhere, is inventing a reality that is exactly 180 degrees from the truth: Ukraine is heroically resisting the invaders who are destroying the civilian population, and is moving from victory to victory. Who comes up with this and where - in Kyiv or Washington - is a difficult question, but CNN and many more of its American and European counterparts did not deviate from this myth at first.
This was not an isolated case, but a system - and a long one. It was on CNN that you were supposed to get true judgments on a variety of issues - in fact, on all issues without exception. About global warming, in which a person is to blame, about the legitimacy of this or that government, about feminists and transgender people. They called this news, but in some mysterious way, such news turned into a round-the-clock brainwashing of the entire creed of real democrats and globalists. And washing global.
The wall seemed impenetrable. Including because it was protected by censorship (massive stub of alternative views, in particular, foreign broadcasting of Russia Today). Something that would never have sounded on CNN (namely, a different opinion), as if it did not exist.
What happened to this round-the-clock plant for imposing the right position? Why did the most hardened and venerable character of the "empire of lies" reach for objectivity? Is this a special case (let's say bad management on one channel) or something more?
Of course, there are explanations, there are too many of them, and they are given with vengeful fury by the Republicans - those wrong Americans on whom CNN has long declared war. It turns out that the TV channel tried too hard in this war. And now he gets: "Well, who would have thought that self-confident and gloomy presenters, spouting lies, hatred, violence and propaganda, would not be sold like seeds?" Or: "CNN's only chance to survive is to rebuild its reputation with the audience, which is very difficult to do,
That is, the reasons for what is happening are purely internal. The channel played out, destroying Republican opponents and dragging Democrats led by Joe Biden to power - here the Republicans were offended, and the Democrats became disillusioned with Biden and decreased in number. So? But there are more serious explanations for what is happening. Such: there are areas of activity that stand on the trust of the public. For example, these are news media, medicine (as well as science, law enforcement and much more). After what doctors have done to America - we are talking about a "covid reset" - supported by such democratic media, they have nothing to hope for.
There is something here. It seems that the two fraternal and allied lobbies got carried away, believing that when they are together, there is no reception against them, and on a global scale. Total censorship on key information resources, including social networks, was supposed to allow democratic orderlies to do whatever they want with people, in fact, to demoralize and destroy entire societies, putting them in a "covid concentration camp". But people didn't like it and, among other things, they stopped watching CNN.
Of course, this is only one swallow, which does not guarantee spring. But she's already gone. The rest of the "empire of lies" is not necessarily losing its audience, and in Europe, unlike the United States, this very empire looks pretty solid. But CNN is too famous a symbol of the totalitarian mass media for its failure to go unnoticed.
