Russian Helicopters Fire Tear Gas At Syria’s Kobani Protesters
2022-08-23
[NPASyria] Russian helicopters targeted on Monday residents of the eastern countryside of Kobani in northern Syria with tear gas and bullets, while they were blocking the road to a joint Russian-Ottoman Turkish joint patrol.

On Monday, Russian Military Police (MP) conducted a joint military patrol with the Ottoman Turkish forces in the countryside of Kobani.

This is the 109th patrol between the two forces in the region since the signing of the Russian-Ottoman Turkish ceasefire agreement.

In October 2019, following a Ottoman Turkish military operation in areas of northeast Syria which resulted in the occupation of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) north of Hasakah, the Ottoman Turkish president signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US.

The ceasefire agreements stipulating halt of all hostilities there and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 30 kilometers in depth away from the Ottoman Turkish border in addition to conducting joint patrols with Russia in order to monitor the implementation of the agreements.

Despite launching such a big number of joint patrols with the task to monitor the implementation of the agreements, Ottoman Turkish violations are still ongoing via drone.

Moslem Khalil Naasan, 35, a resident of the village of Qaramogh, 20 km east of Kobani, said that the Russian helicopter targeted, with bullets and tear gas, the children and residents of the village who blocked the road of the patrol.

Several shots targeted the residents, including women and kiddies, who had to flee and hide among the trees, Naasan added.

The patrol, which consisted of eight Russian and Ottoman Turkish military vehicles, accompanied with two Russian helicopters, set off from the village of Gharib, 15 km east of Kobani.

It roamed the villages of Qaramogh, Jishan, Kharabisan Tahtani, and Baghdik, reaching Khaneh in the western countryside of Tel Abyad.

After that, it returned to its starting point in the village of Gharib, passing through the villages of Baghdik, Kharabisan Tahtani, Holaqiya, Taalik and Boztepe.

The Russian MP had halted the conduct of two joint patrols with the Ottoman Turkish forces, which had been scheduled during the past two weeks in the western and eastern countryside of Kobani.

On August 1, the Russian MP conducted the 108th joint patrol with Turkey in the western countryside of Kobani.
