2022-08-23
[NPASyria] On Monday, Turkish forces and their affiliated armed Syrian opposition factions targeted outskirts of several villages and towns in the northern countryside of Aleppo, northern Syria.

Turkish artillery targeted several villages in the countryside of Aleppo including Hasajek, Smouqa, Kol Sroj, Maraanaz, and others in Sharran district of the countryside of Afrin including Shawargha, castle of Shawargha, Alqamiya.

It also targeted Shahba dam and the town of Fafin in the northern countryside, an eyewitness told North Press.

On Sunday, the Turkish forces and their affiliated factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), targeted the town of Tel Rifaat in the northern countryside of Aleppo with two artillery shells.

As a result of the shelling, material damages were reported.

For several months, Turkish forces and the SNA factions have escalated their shelling of villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo, following Turkish threats to launch a military operation, targeting Manbij and Tel Rifaat in northern Syria.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently announced plans to carry out another major military cross-border incursion into northern Syria. Erdogan specified his targets in the two northern Syrian cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat.

On July 1, Erdogan said that Ankara’s new military operation in northern Syria could begin at any moment.

“The time has come to clear these lands from the terrorist organizations,” Erdogan threatened during Tehran Summit.

Tehran Summit, on July 19, brought together presidents of each of Iran, Russia and Turkey with the Syrian issue and Turkish threats on the top of its agenda.
