...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS), in a town north of Deir ez-Zor city, eastern Syria.

An SDF military source in the town of al-Suwar, 70 km north of Deir ez-Zor, said, "Two unknown button men riding a cycle of violence opened fire with a Kalashnikov at 45-year-old SDF fighter Yassin al-Nassir, nicknamed Abu Shaman, near the main road in al-Suwar."

"Al-Nassir was heading to his home to spend his furlough. He hailed form the village of Jadid Ekedat in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside," the source added.

The source cited eyewitnesses, who were close to the attack scene, as saying that the button men chanted ISIS slogans before fleeing.

The countryside of Deir ez-Zor witnesses a spike in liquidations, targeting SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribal leaders and civilians, despite the intensive security operations launched by the SDF.

On August 23, ISIS grabbed credit for killing two SDF fighters in the village of al-Saada, east of the town of Markadah in Hasakah southern countryside, around 30 km north of al-Suwar.
