Baked Alaskan: 60% of voters cast ballots for Republicans. A Democrat won.
2022-09-02
[Hot Air] What happens when you combine an all-in or "jungle" primary with ranked-choice voting in the general election? Putting the two modern "innovations" on elections together in Alaska produced this absurd result, in which Republicans lost a House seat despite getting 60% of the vote.

And get ready for it to happen all over again in two months:

Final margin: Peltola (D) defeats Palin (R) 51.5%-48.5% in the final round of ranked-choice. This is a huge victory and pickup for Dems, driven more by Palin's unpopularity than national trends. #AKAL

#14  Republicans should have been hammering election reform into all 50 states in the aftermath of 2020. I've heard they are in some areas, but it should have been a contract for America type deal everyone knew about and put politicians on record if they vote against it.

#13  We need to tighten the election parameters again: Vote once, on election day, for one candidate.

#12  *Spit* Ranked-Choice Voting *Spit!!* I have never understood and practical, repeat practical, for that process abortion. Add it to a "all-in" or jungle primary ...Madness.

#11  Remember Alaska has mail in voting with *NO* signature verification.

So the fix is in anyway.

#10  If you consider Murkowski a Republican. Technically she is, but ideologically she's far out of step.

She did not do this by herself.

#8  Murkowski supported the change. It could result in her reelection. This was a special election for a term that will end in January. I don't think that it helps Murkowski for this to happen in an election that means absolutely nothing. Installing another Pelosi Pawn for four months has zero effect. Alaskan Republicans now have an understanding of the scam and can game it out for November, if they want to punish the scammers.

#6  The Democrat mistake was that the next election is in 2 months and the GOP has warning how the game is played now.

#4  It's time that party 'spoilers' are made to pay the price of undermining these elections. Get your f'ing ego out of it.

#3  Elections just don't fooking matter. This Republic will crash and burn and hopefully take most of the DC denizens with it.

#2  How is it absurd? The two pubs split the 60% and the dem took the other 40%. If that's how the election is run, that's a consistent mathematical result. It's what happens when the party has no discipline. Begich III comes from a line of democrats and I'd imagine he is running as GOP either as a spoiler or as the sort of pub many Alaskans seem to want.
