- Fred Sargeant, 74, was attacked at the 39th Burlington Pride Parade in Vermont, after showing up to protest the 'misogyny' and 'homophobia' of the trans community
- Sargeant is famously known in the gay rights movement and was a co-founder of the first 1970 pride parade in New York City known as the Christopher Street Liberation Day march
- He also participated in the 1960 Stonewall Riots in New York City that broke out after police raided a gay club in Greenwich Village
- Fans were quick to support Sargeant, especially those who have recently detransitioned and others who have been pressured to transition
