#8   claim they recycle their own human waste to power their gas cooker.

Biogas. About a decade ago Michael Yon persuaded General Petraeus that turning human and animal dung into methane suitable for cooking and electric power generation in closed septic pits as a healthy, low tech alternative burning dried dung patties was a good idea. #3  A couple who escaped the rat race to live off-grid in the desert in a US national park are now completely self sufficient - and claim they recycle their own human waste to power their gas cooker.

So do they own the property in our National Park? I think not.

#2  Self sufficient in the desert? The chicklets who scrawled this article think driving to the Whole Foods in La Quinta is self sufficiency. Love the area though. I've given thought to retiring in Bombay Beach.
