The Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism said the joint operation which was conducted at the Bulo-Madina village in the Lower Shabelle region saw several al-Shabaab Lions of Islam escape with serious injuries.
"The Kharijites (al-Shabaab hard boys) who were killed in the Bulo Madina area were preparing conspiracies to harm the Somali people, but they were thwarted and defeated by the intelligence agency and national forces," the ministry said in a statement issued in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
It said the latest operation achieved its intended purpose and destroyed battlewagons carrying weapons and the arms store that the Lions of Islam had in that area.
The ministry lauded the Somalis who have joined the fight to liberate the country from al-Shabaab which has engaged the government forces in near-daily attacks.
