Cairo court places former supply minister Bassem Ouda, four other MB members on terrorism list
2022-12-28
[AlAhram] A Cairo criminal court put on Tuesday former Minister of supply Bassem Ouda and four other Moslem Brüderbund (MB) members on the state’s terror list for a five-year period.

Ouda served as the Minister of supply in former Prime Minister Hisham Qandil’s cabinet in January 2013. He resigned from his position on 4 July 2013 following the ouster of late President Mohammed Morsi.

He was arrested in November 2013 on charges of inciting violence. He is currently serving several sentences including two life sentences in two different cases. Several charges have been brought against him including joining an illegal group and inciting violence.

The four other MB members who have been put on the list are Amr Mohammed Zaki, Mohammed El-Sayed Abu Zeid, Anwar Sobhy Darkish and Magdi Abdel-Halim Kharoub.

Under the anti-terrorism law, which has been in effect since 2015, a person on the terror list is banned from travel and is liable to have their assets frozen.

The Moslem Brüderbund group has been designated as a terrorist organization in Egypt by the government in December 2013.
