Crenshaw Blasts Anti-McCarthy Republicans: ‘Tell Us What You Actually Want Or Shut The F*** Up'
2023-01-05
[DW] Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) tore into a small group of Republican lawmakers during multiple interviews on Wednesday for blocking Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) bid to become the new House Speaker.

The Republicans who are blocking McCarthy’s bid included Reps. Dan Bishop (NC), Lauren Boebert (CO), Byron Donalds (FL), Josh Brecheen (OK), Mike Cloud (TX), Andrew Clyde (GA), Eli Crane (AZ), Matt Gaetz (FL), Bob Good (VA), Paul Gosar (AZ), Andy Harris (MD), Anna Paulina Luna (FL), Mary Miller (IL), Ralph Norman (SC), Andy Ogles (TN), Scott Perry (PA), Matt Rosendale (MT), Chip Roy (TX), Keith Self (TX), and Andy Biggs (AZ).

Speaking to reporters, Crenshaw unloaded on the 20 Republicans, saying, "I’m tired of your stupid platitudes that some consultant told you to say on the campaign trail, alright."

"Behind closed doors tell us what you actually want, or shut the f**** up," he said. "They need to be men and adults and say what they want, instead of playing these little games, that’s what we’re asking."

"That’s what I’ve asked them. Some of them are my friends. Stop saying platitudes like, ’Washington is broken. We can’t do the status quo,’" he continued. "They want to pull the pins on the grenades and lock the doors."

#21  Liz Cheney is set for life. Let's just say Congressional "benefits" have been berry berry good to her.

#20  The amusing thing about this contretemps? January 6 will be more of a nothingburger than it already was. Kinzinger got his much-sought-after CNN contract, so will presumably be whaling away at the GOP in his new role as Chief GOP Quisling. Waiting for Liz Cheney to land a similar spot at one of the big media outlets.

#19  The point that the Chip Roy faction refuses to acknowledge is that McCarthy may be short 20 votes, but anyone else is short 200 votes. If this continues much longer, the Speaker will be chosen by a plurality vote of the majority caucus. That would really marginalize the Chip Roy wing of the GOP. Holding up the Speakership vote is a really short-sighted move, but my impression from their pointlessly inflammatory public statements on other subjects is that they're not exactly strategic thinkers. Being a politician doesn't mean you have to utter every single thought that comes into your mind.

#18  Moderate in the context of her caucus. Nope. Not buyin'.

I'd like to share your deeply-held belief, but my lyin' eyes keep getting in the way. Fact is Democrat reps like getting re-elected, too. And many of them are in districts where a 5% swing the other way sends them back to the private sector. That's why Pelosi, not AOC, was the Speaker. Because as crazy as Pelosi is, she's nowhere near the asylum-grade nuttiness of the far left.

#16  San Fran Nan was anything but moderate, Zhang.

Moderate in the context of her caucus. McCarthy is moderate relative to the GOP right, but far to the right of even the most right wing Democrat. ACU ratings don't lie. Manchin in the Senate is considered right wing for a Democrat, but he is to the left of Susan Collins, the leftmost GOP senator.

#15  ^^^
It's a post that requires moderation

#14  The bottom line result of a hard right Speaker pushing hard right initiatives? A rump GOP minority in 2024 and Biden's re-election. That's why so many GOP reps like McCarthy. They know he won't get them fired in 2024. It's also why neither Scalise nor Meadows wants the job. It's a post that requires moderation, failing which GOP donors and voters who provide the margin of victory go on strike. Scalise and Meadows want to remain true to their principles.

#13  They are looking to advance their personal political careers on the back of a 10% minority faction. While I don't agree with their kamikaze tactics, would it be such a bad thing if no legislation were passed for the next two years? Let the government run on autopilot.

#12  We don't want a new McStain in the house. Don't care what service you gave now, because shit it out on the taxpayers like all the other RINO Establishment gits.

#9  Now they are uncompromising.

Cringeshaw. Tell you what I don't want. I don't want to pretend that politicians who have President Reagan whispering in their ear like some weird fetish copy of the scene Auralius/Maximus "let us whisper" from Gladiator, are serious people. Stupid platitudes, indeed.

The arrogance alone would have me joining The Twenty.

#8  Tone Deaf MoFos ask us to "say what they want."

It's loud and clear: We dont want McCarthy. If this is the People's House, wtf.

And still I see the headlines, how will McCarthy find the votes. Not how will the House Establishment caucus with Varsity House Members to find a Speaker that the majority can rally behind. Not this predestination that McCarthy SHALL BE the next speaker.

#7  If McCarthy moving into The Speaker's office before being elected, and this little boy tantrum is true, well....

Oh, lecture about return to civility in politics?

Sounds good to me. Especially with you Crenshaw. You have become part of the swamp.
