North Korea blasts NATO chief's visit to South as prelude to 'new Cold War'

...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...

chief Jens Stoltenberg’s ongoing visit to South Korea and Japan as part of efforts to create an "Asian version of NATO," warning that his trip serves as a "prelude to confrontation" and heralds a "new Cold War" involving the Asia-Pacific region.

Kim Tong Myong, a researcher of the Society for International Politics Study in the DPRK, accused the "U.S.-led" body of expanding its "hegemony" to the Asia-Pacific region under the guise of dealing with threats from China and Russia, according to a statement published Monday by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

"It is the general orientation sought by the U.S.-led NATO to cook up Asian version NATO serving the maintenance of its hegemonic position and order in collusion with its vassal forces," he said.

In a meeting with South Korean foreign minister Park Jin on Sunday, Stoltenberg called for a united international response to the DPRK’s missile and nuclear activity and pledged to support Seoul’s efforts to achieve sustainable peace in the Korean Peninsula through the "complete denuclearization of North Korea."

He also stressed the "interconnectedness" of global security threats and called for greater cooperation between NATO and Seoul, while emphasizing that democratic countries must stand together in a "rules-based international order."

Stoltenberg repeated recent U.S. claims that the DPRK is supplying weapons to Russia for its war against Ukraine, allegations that Pyongyang denies.

"The war in Ukraine has also ramifications for your region," he said in the meeting with Park, according to the foreign ministry. "And we also know that North Korea is providing military support to the Russian war efforts with rockets and missiles."
