Eight Mostly Of Government Soldiers Killed In Syria’s Daraa

[NPASyria] Despite intensive security presence of the Syrian government forces, Daraa Governorate, south Syria, continues to witness security chaos and increasing killing cases, recording eight killings, including a child and a number of the Syrian government forces last week.

On Feb. 1, Muhammad Tareq Abu Hobi died in a hospital in the Syrian capital Damascus of injuries he sustained earlier.

Local sources told North Press that Abu Hobi sustained injuries in an attack that had occurred on Jan. 30 while accompanying his uncle Wasim Abu Hobi, who was killed at the time.

Wasim Abu Hobi is Paleostinian works within the group of Wasim al-Masalma, the head of an Iranian-backed foundation with links to Lebanese Hezbollah, according to the same sources.

On Jan. 30, a soldier of the Syrian government forces succumbed to his wounds after a bus was targeted by unknown button men in the eastern countryside of Daraa by an IED.

Local sources told North Press that Tirki Abu Mer’i, from the town of Huraira in al-Zabadani in Rif Dimashq, was admitted to the Police Hospital in the Syrian capital Damascus where he lost life. Tirki was serving in the Special Missions Unit of the Interior Ministry.

On the same day, local sources told North Press that Hilal Freij was killed at the hands of unknown gunnies at Umm al-Mayadin checkpoint in eastern Daraa.

On Jan. 30, local sources told North Press that Radhi Abdullah al-Khilef was killed by two unknown button men onboard a cycle of violence in the town of al-Yadouda in the western countryside of Daraa.

The sources added that al-Khilef was a former member in the armed opposition and joined the settlement agreement in 2018 and he had not joined any security or military party since the settlement agreement.

On Jan. 29, a local source told North Press that the four-year-old child Qasem Abed al-Maf’alani in a landmine explosion in the town of Zimrin north of Daraa.

The source added that two of his cousins were with him, and they were maimed and were transferred to a hospital for treatment.

On the same day, local sources told North Press that unknown gunnies onboard a motorbike rubbed out Hassan Qasem al-Motawali, a government soldier.

The sources added that al-Motawali had joined the Syrian opposition before joining the government forces after having his condition settled in the summer of 2018.

On Jan. 28, local sources told North Press that Ghasan Yahya al-Ammarin was rubbed out by unknown attackers in the city of Nawa in the western countryside of Daraa.

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been in a state of insecurity, as daily liquidations target government soldiers, officials and officers. Thefts have surged, too.

In July 2018, opposition factions and Syrian government forces reached an agreement, mediated by Russia, for the opposition-held areas of Daraa. According to the deal, opposition Lions of Islam who agreed to hand over heavy weapons, were handed special cards to protect them from prosecution, and allowed to stay in Daraa. Those opposed to the agreement were forced to leave for Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
