ISIS-Linked Mothers To 10 Canadian Children Cannot Be Returned – Canada
2023-02-04
[NPASyria] Global Affairs Canada, the country’s diplomatic body, has told four ISIS-linked women being held in Syria that they will have to decide whether to send their children to Canada or remain together at their current location.

According to a Canadian newspaper, the four women are neither Canadians nor Syrians, but of an undisclosed third nationality, while their 10 children are all Canadian-born.

According to the women’s lawyer, they have a week and a half to decide whether to send their children away or remain together at a holding camp in Syria.

Global Affairs Canada has excluded bringing the women back.

Their Canadian lawyer is appealing the decision. "The hope is that the mothers will be able to obtain temporary residence permits [in Canada], either through the federal government or, if necessary, by court order," their lawyer said.

Recently, a Canadian court ordered the repatriation of a number of the country’s citizens from camps and prisons in North and East Syria (NES), including ISIS-linked men.

Though unspecified, the women and their children are likely being held in one of NES’ holding camps for ISIS women and their children. al-Hawl camp, the region’s largest camp, alone houses over 50.000 individuals.
