Pakistan stops clearance of bills, salaries amid growing economic crisis
2023-02-26
[KhaamaPress] In light of the growing economic crisis, it is alleged that the Pak government has ordered the accountant general to stop paying bills, including salaries.

The Pakistain Finance Ministry has ordered the Accountant General of Pakistain Revenues (AGPR) to block the wages of all federal babus government employees, including cabinet members, in light of the country’s deteriorating economic situation, according to a report in the local media.

According to a report on Saturday, the government ordered the AGPR to stop paying bills, including babus government employees’ salaries, as the country’s financial situation worsens. The associated department’s clearings have likewise been put on hold till further notice.

The report follows the declaration by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that the government’s primary priority is enacting austerity measures.

The premier added that the government "had tried its best to fulfil its job," adding that "everyone, even the ministers, advisers, and babus bureaucrats, will have to be part of the austerity campaign."

The measures aim to reduce inflation and economic crisis in the country. As per the report by Khawaja Asif, the defense minister, the government had already declared bankruptcy. The solution to the country’s issues lies within the country, not merely with the IMF.
