[AlAhram] Egypt's Armed Forces announced on Wednesday that border guards have foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs in South Sinai governorate, Military Spokesman Gharib Abdel-Hafez said in a statement.Abdel-Hafez said a border guards patrol was combing roads when the guards noticed a suspicious vehicle. Upon approaching the vehicle for inspection, its passengers opened fire. The fire exchange, the army spokesperson said, resulted in the death of a smuggler, an officer, and the injury of an officer and a soldier. The Armed Forces affirmed their continued efforts to completely eradicate smuggling activities, Abdel-Hafez said. |
