ISIS claims attack on SDF checkpoint in eastern Deir ez-Zor [NPASyria] The Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. (ISIS) claimed on Sunday responsibility for an attack against a checkpoint of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in a town in eastern Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, a day earlier. ISIS-run Amaq news agency published a statement saying the group’s button men targeted with machine guns an SDF checkpoint near the entrance of al-Shuhail town in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside. The statement added that the assault killed an SDF fighter and injured another, and that the group’s button men returned safe to their hideouts. On Thursday, ISIS grabbed credit for a similar attack at the town of al-Sabha ![]() in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside, killing an SDF fighter as a result. An SDF source told North Press, “Unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire using machine guns on an SDF checkpoint near the al-Attal roundabout near the entrance of al-Shuhail town, east of Deir ez-Zor.” “The attack injured Ibrahim al-Khalaf, who was taken to al-Omar military hospital to receive treatment. He is in a critical condition,” the source said citing a doctor at the hospital. ISIS Landmines kill government soldier, civilian in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor [NPASyria] On Friday, a soldier of the Syrian government forces and a civilian lost their lives in explosion of two landmines, most likely left by Islamic State (ISIS), in the southern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria. A military source of the government forces in Deir ez-Zor said Youssef al-Badran, a member of the 17th Division of the government forces, was killed in a landmine explosion of ISIS remnants while he was travelling around in Sholah Desert in the southern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. Khalaf al-Khelief also was killed in a landmine explosion while chasing truffles in Ayyash Desert, according to local sources. Landmines and war remnants, since early 2023, have harmed 215 people, of which 80 were killed and injured in Deir ez-Zor, according to the Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press. On March 1, six people were killed and 40 others were injured by a blast from an old ISIS mine. The victims had been searching for truffles in in the village of Kabajib south of Deir ez-Zor Governorate. |
