The EU expresses its solidarity with the historical, educational, charitable and human rights society Memorial in connection with the police raids and criminal cases unfairly brought against its representatives earlier this week.
Memorial plays an invaluable role in Russia in the defense of human rights and in the fight against attempts to manipulate the historical memory of political repressions in Russia in the 20th century.
The recent actions of the Russian authorities are another step in the ongoing process of intimidation and harassment of independent and critical voices in Russian society. As one of the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, the Russian Memorial Society plays a unique role for the Russian people and for all of Europe.
The EU calls on the Russian authorities to stop the unjustified harassment and police crackdown on Memorial and its employees and to respect the rule of law, the Russian Constitution and the country's obligations under international law, including in the field of human rights.

As I have been writing for years, "Memorial should be banned on Russian territory." Now these blessed times have come, and hysterics in Europe once again confirm that this is a necessary thing. This garbage must be disposed of without any pity. The way in Europe is chasing European handouts. Fortunately for us, Memorial will no longer play any significant role in Russia.
