Turkey Deports 9,000 Afghan Refugees Since January 2023 |

According to Ali Hekmat, the head of the Association for the Support of Afghan Refugees in Turkey, the country has expelled 29,000 refugees between January 1 and the first week of April, with which 8,780 Afghan and 1,581 Pak nationals making up the majority of those deported. Deporting refugees from Turkiye has accelerated, mainly Afghan refugees, on the eve of the country’s presidential elections. More than 18,000 refugees have been detained on Turkey’s border and are ready to be deported, of which over 5,000 are Afghan nationals. According to a report, Turkey deports up to a thousand Afghan refugees to Afghanistan every week.
