#9 In the last years of the Republic just before Caesar's assassination, Rome's political factions used huge street gangs to intimidate and control public policy and orations by opposing political voices. Since the Roman citizens were prohibited by law (Lex Julia) from carrying arms, the gangs increasingly suppressed opposition voices and had strong influence on how the common citizens voted. Consider ANTIFA, selective enforcement like J6, and the press for gun-control. History doesn't repeat itself but it does often rhyme! https://imperiumromanum.pl/en/curiosities/ancient-rome-and-the-right-to-own-weapons/ |
