US claims Sudan too dangerous to evacuate Americans while rest of the world safely removes their citizens |

#18 To be fair, Sudan looked like it had finally settled down. They even were working up to an Abraham Accord with Israel. Another thought: How many of those Americans are dual-citizen something? Not necessarily Sudanese, but members of that floating expat society that staffs all sorts of projects, and may or maynot have deliberately acquired American citizenship along the way like many of the Afghan-Americans who returned home when things were “civilized”, then got caught in the reconquest? Similar intent to the many Lebanese-X who wanted an escape card when the time came, and all the Mainland Chinese who sent their wives to give birth in California or bought Canadian citizenship against future need. |

#14 They took their wives and children to a Third World hell hole, known for its violence and instability? Subject to the machinations of Victoria Nuland? Sorry. I really am. But they should have known better. |

#12 Why would American citizens go there? Soldiers have families and kids Contract maint and operations loggie techs have families and kids Logistic warehouses have operation staff w/kids Kids have schoolteachers and bus drivers Families get groceries, buy clothes, go to American movies, church services Churches have priests Groceries get delivered Kids get sick Sick kids go to clinics Clinics have American trained nurses, doctors Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Subway, KFC... offer employment to American dependents as do the military for administrative, clerical roles. Quite often mini/micro communities are built to provide for civilian augmentees. [As referenced by TW in her experience] non-military commercial interests are also represented in these communities. Those are likely the 16,000+. |

#10 As long as I've been reading Rantburg, since shortly after 9/11, this site has carried articles about war, violence, pogroms and all kinds of instability in Sudan. I've gotten the impression that Sudan might actually be more dangerous than Afghanistan. So, is it oil or what? Why would American citizens go there? Especially, why would American citizens go there when they can pretty much assume that Biden will not send the cavalry to their rescue? |

#9 In the Wind and the Lion, the Brian Keith version of Teddy Roosevelt was delightful, and fairly authentic. " America wants Pedecaris alive or Raisuli dead"... line among my favorite. The other was "Gentlemen, nothing in this world is certain - absolutely nothing. The fate of the nation will be decided by the American people in November, and the fate of Morocco will be decided tomorrow, by me. And now, if you don't mind, I'd just like to be alone with my bear!" Sadly, those days when American citizenship was a prized and widely respected status are long gone. |

#8 It's not just duelies Nic. Biden and his followers loathe all forms of "citizenship." We're a 'global' community. |

#7 Sorry Rantburg. I, like Biden, have little sympathy for duel citizenship. Prob the only thing we agree on. |

#5 Obviously, those poor souls have nothing to blackmail or threaten the Bidens or the swampland. |

#4 And do not be surprised if Joe gets 20,000+ votes from Sudan in 2024. |
