Kiev , May 27, 2023, 19:07 - IA Regnum. In the north of Ukraine, about 390,000 books in Russian were confiscated from libraries. This is reported by the Ukrainian online publication "Suspilne" ("Public") with reference to the director of the department of culture of the Chernihiv regional administration Lyudmila Zamay.
Russian-language editions were scrapped as part of the de-Russification project.
"In 2022–2023, almost 390,000 books in Russian were written off in libraries in the Chernihiv region," the information says.
It is reported that a special commission has been set up in each institution, which determines the books to write off. According to Zamai, in the regional library named after Korolenko, Russian-language books accounted for more than 70% of the total fund.
It is specified that Russian authors Pushkin, Krylov, Chekhov, Lermontov, Tolstoy, Turgenev, Bunin, Blok, Dostoevsky and others were included in the "sanction lists."
As IA Regnum reported, in February it became known that in Ukraine, as part of the de-Russification program in 2022, libraries have written off over 20 million books in Russian. It is noted that after that, the works of authors who support Russia, as well as books printed in sanctioned publishing houses, were removed from the shelves.
