Tribal resistance fighters drive UAE-backed separatists out of key areas of Abyan
2023-05-30
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Tribal button men managed to seize important sites from the grip of the UAE-affiliated Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions in Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
province, southern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, on Sunday.

Tribal sources in the province said, "Militants of the Al Shama’a tribe in al-Mahfad district expelled the forces of the First Support Brigade, affiliated with the STC, from the tribe’s lands."

According to the sources, the STC forces were subjected to a surprise attack with various types of weapons, causing heavy losses without revealing the extent of those losses.

The sources explained that Al Shama’a Death Eaters forced the STC forces to withdraw and leave their lands, amid calm and expected caution in the area.

This comes after the UAE-affiliated factions imposed control last week on the citizens’ farms without responding to the people’s demands to leave their lands.

The UAE pushed STC’s factions to Abyan districts in August of last year, in the so-called "Siham al-Sharq" operation, to confront terrorist elements after it took control of Ataq city, the center of Shabwah province, following fierce confrontations with pro-Islah Party factions.
