The Silence of Leading Senate Republicans on Trump Indictment Is Deafening |
2023-06-12 |
[PJ] The House Republican leadership has given a full-throated defense of Donald Trump following his 37-count indictment for violations of the Espionage Act, Speaker of the House Rep. Kevin McCarthy said. "Today is indeed a dark day for the United States of America," House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) tweeted. "It is unconscionable for a President to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades. I, and every American who believes in the rule of law, stand with President Trump." The number two Republican, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), also gave a strong defense of Trump. "Let’s be clear about what’s happening: Joe Biden is weaponizing his Department of Justice against his own political rival. This sham indictment is the continuation of the endless political persecution of Donald Trump." While the GOP House rushed to Trump’s side to defend him, there was only a deafening silence from the Senate Republican leadership. |

#20 Here's an idea: They go through the motions of this Trump indictment....Dem is "elected" president in 2024...Trump gets magically pardoned and can spend the money Pfizer gave him for his 2016 inauguration bash if there are a few shekels left over. |

#19 Even Bernie Sanders has been a victim, so what does that tell ya about the Dems/Uniparty? |

#18 People in my neighborhood are flying their American flag upside down. I suppose it has something to do with Trump's indictment. |

#17 The usual stuff, He's unelectable, the polls show he cant win. But alas, he is the leading GOP candidate, Up 20 points over Biden, etc... |

#16 Surprised? They supported Hillary Clinton in '16. And Biden in '20. |

#15 If you listen closely, you'll hear their heads collectively explode this and next week as the polls will show no jump in the public's excitement about the GOPe preferred candidate. The GOPe will not be able to comprehend how few, if any, have dropped their support for Trump. That's what they were hedging on. 2024 is not going to go the Establishment's way. |

#14 When you have a choice between turning on your own or supporting criminal behavior, the easiest choice is to do nothing. |

#11 I doubt that Trump can be beat in an honest election. |

#10 The honourable senators know he will do his best to work with them if elected, as he did before. So there is no serious downside to their lack of support at this stage — and only a third of them are up for reelection in 2024. In the House, meanwhile, they all will face the voters next year, and many of them are recent arrivals who slid in on President Trump’s coattails. They know what their voters expect from them. |

#8 The GOP sees Trump as unelectable, something I agree with. They want him out but they want someone else to do it. Posted by Wheresing de Medici3077 If he is so unelectable why not let the voters decide? |

#4 I see the GOP as indifferent to my most pressing concerns about the direction of the country and the integrity of our elections. |

#3 The GOP see Trump as unmanageable. The donors want a return on their investment and Trump is not beholden to anyone. |
